The brief called for a new building to house a concert hall next to an existing church in Rakvere, Estonia. Given the difficulty to house the requested program on the site, the proposal wraps around the existing church building spiraling upward to hover above the street creating a stepped public space on its roof. The proposal also includes landscaping the adjacent open space given its potential for open air events. The geometry of the entire site is based on a triangulated plane seeking to evoke Arvö Part’s tintinnabuli–a compositional style consisting of clusters of three musical notes.
