Buccinasco Urban Center Masterplan (Milan, Italy, 2007)

Buccinasco is a Milanese suburb in search of a center. We proposed a “managed decay” strategy where “urban nature” is allowed to go feral: romantic “ruin value” theory applied to a suburban context. The main street would close and the local flora would be allowed to take root again, light fixtures would hang from trees, and logs and boulders would serve as street furniture. The second part of the proposal consisted of a multiple use theater. The sliding wall allows for different internal and external configurations maximizing the architectural and urban effects of an otherwise generic “dumb box” building.
